For one weekend, you are invited to Meet Your Navy and discover the past, present and future of the Royal Navy. You will be able to access areas not normally open to the public, see the ships and meet the crews of the modern Fleet.

Confirmed Displays  

Royal Marines:

Her Majesty’s Royal Marines will conduct an arena display, an action packed harbour display, and attendees will be able to experience life as a Royal Marine by interacting with this elite force.

Field Gun:

There will be a Brickwood’s Field Gun competition between HMS Sultan and HMS Nelson. Watch these two teams race around the arena towing a field gun, the first back to base and to fire the gun wins.

Marie Curie Zip Wire:

The longest zip wire in the UK will be at Meet Your Navy.  You will be able to zip across a working water filled basin to a site near the stern of HMS Victory. Personnel interested in the zip should pre- register with Marie Curie Cancer.

RN Dive Team:

A salt water-filled tank will be the venue to meet the Navy divers. The divers will be in historic and modern diving equipment. You will see them playing noughts and crosses and learn about modern diving techniques.

Apprentices:

Fleet support will link with HMS SULTAN and COLLINGWOOD putting on displays highlighting traditional ways of ship building, how they have developed and the modern techniques used by the Royal Navy today. Including a cut away diesel and gas turbine.

RN Physical training:

The latest recruits from the Royal Navy Physical Training team will perform the hornpipe and other physical performances throughout the day.

Royal Marines Band:

Sunset Ceremonies to close the day and a concert band performing in St Ann’s Church

Royal Navy volunteer band:

Performing throughout the day in St Ann’s Church

Royal Marines Museum:

Enjoy an opportunity to dress in historic costume or modern day uniform; learn about becoming a Royal Marine Commando.

THE INTERNATIONAL GUILD OF KNOT TYERS
The Solent branch of the International Guild of knot Tyers are pleased to be invited to attend the ‘Meet Your Navy’ event and show that they are exponents of Traditional Sailors Crafts, working with rope and canvas.
Demonstrations of knot craft ranging from tying shoe laces to Turks Heads as well as coaching on bends and hitches for young and old alike.
One of the prizes ‘that money can’t buy’ will be made by Ken Elliott, Boatswain RN. He will make a bespoke Ship’s Bell Rope to the size and colour specified by the winner. www.igkt. net

Royal Navy Submarine Museum:

This unique Museum offers you the chance to walk on board a real submarine, discover true tales of heroism and relive a life under the sea through the personal belongings of the crew. Trace the history of submarine development, from Alexander the Great, to Holland I, to the giant nuclear powered Vanguard class of the present day peace keepers.

The Army Medical Services Band

The Army Medical Services Band will be performing twice on Sunday close to HMS Victory.

AGC Pop Band:

The Adjutant General Band will perform as a pop band and will play requests and popular modern and classic hits.

Portsmouth Football Club:

See the link between Portsmouth Football Club and the Royal Navy. See the massive 180ft shirt, learn to play football, win great prizes, and learn about Nelson and Mary Rose mascots.

PPF Express:

Bring delight to the young and young at heart by jumping aboard the PPF express land train. Take a journey through the time zones and discover the many attractions in a relaxed style.

RNLI:

 Visit and chat with the RNLI, view an RNLI lifeboat and their display stand. Learn more about this incredible maritime rescue service. 

Coastguard:

The Coastguard will be bringing along their display stand and will be teaching safety protocol and the potential hazards of being at sea.

Red Arrows:

The world-famous Red Arrows will be performing on the Friday of MYN in the evening. The dramatic flying team will be flying low over the harbour.

Royal Navy Aircraft:

Flying everyday.  Helicopters from the Royal Navy flying fast and low over the harbour.

Historic Flight:

The Royal Navy Historic Flight was established at the Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton in 1972 in order to preserve naval heritage. Watch Swordfish & Seafire fly every day at Meet Your Navy as a living memorial to all Fleet Air Arm personnel.

Embark on a journey through time at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and discover the changing face of the Royal Navy. Meet Tudor craftsmen, red-coated 1830s Royal Marines, D-Day and Falklands War forces. Encounter sailors from the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries alongside the dockyard's world famous historic ships, HMS Victory, Mary Rose and Warrior 1860 and the Royal Naval Museum and Action Stations.

Enjoy a fantastic programme of entertainment including displays of drill, arms and armour, musket firing and living history.
